My Review
Everyone has some insects in their house, and ours is no exception. We have plenty of spiders (which don't bother me most of the time, although I don't like seeing their webs around the house), millipedes (I've seen some in our basement as much as 4 inches long! Ewww!), an occasional silverfish, and of course the flies and gnats that show up with the warm weather. In the past, we've mostly tolerated the insects, occasionally trying a chemical spray to combat them, but with the awful smell and mess, most of those have been stored away or thrown away after only one use.
When I was contacted by the EcoSMART Rep, I was very happy at the prospect of trying an organic insecticide. I chose the Home Pest Control spray, which was described on the EcoSMART website as:
"FOR INDOOR & OUTDOOR USE Kills and repels over 100 home invading pests: Ants (including Carpenter, Red Harvester, Pavement and Argentine), Beetles, Centipedes, Cockroaches, Crickets, Earwigs, Fleas, Millipedes, Pantry Pests, Pillbugs, Silverfish, Spiders, Sowbugs, Ticks and other crawling insect pests."
I decided to start by using the EcoSMART Home Pest Control spray in the many corners of our home, where spiderwebs are routinely found. (Each week I vacuum and clean them up, and soon after, they re-appear in the same places.) I sprayed a little at a time, and right away I noticed there was no chemical smell choking me! Instead there was an herbal fragrance, and while it was noticeable, it wasn't unpleasant. I also noticed that the areas I sprayed, had very little residue. The spray seemed to be absorbed by the wood (I was spraying in corners where there were wood floors, stairs, and molding), and didn't leave any dark spots or stains. After that, I started going all over the house, spraying the places where I'd seen insects most often, such as the bathrooms (where we get silverfish and some spiders), the basement and it's stairway, and around the entryways. I sprayed a very small amount in each area, as I wanted to see how much would be needed to do the job.
After the first application, I watched the most insect-prone areas for a few days, and the spiderwebs returned to a few, so I cleaned them up and re-applied the EcoSMART Home Pest Control spray, using a bit more than I had the first time. That did the trick! When it came time to vacuum the floors and stairs the following week, there were no more spiderwebs, not even in the corners of the entryway stairs, where they have been almost daily for years! I also noticed that not once did I see a millipede on the basement stairway, and since I have to go up and down those stairs to do our laundry, this made me a happy girl!
Now I will no longer have to summon my husband to "get the bug!", or to spray for bugs (because I couldn't stand the smell). I can do it myself with no mess, and no fuss. Hooray!
